Report: Duke’s Coach K Seriously Considered Retirement, Now Puts Thoughts Behind Him

A very interesting story came out of USA Basketball yesterday as Team USA has already started preparations for next summer’s FIBA World Cup — Duke head man and basketball legend Mike Krzyzewski came close to calling it quits from coaching last year, almost forgoing the next four years of Olympic basketball and ending his incredible tenure with the Blue Devils.

Krzyzewski caught up with ESPN’s Marc Stein:

“A year or so ago, I was thinking a little bit about [retirement]. I’m 66. I wasn’t sure how long I was going to coach. But I’m not thinking about that at all any more and haven’t been for a while. I’m sure I’m gonna coach for a while, and through the Olympics by far.”

Coach K continued on to say that he’ll always remain at Duke, even once he does decide that he’s had enough of coaching. However, he said that he is re-energized on the coaching front and hopes to continue for at least four more years. You can check out all of Krzyzewski’s quotes in Stein’s piece here.
